Unique Counter Height Tables
|
Using different counter height tables offers you an interesting way to change up the older order of tables. By raising the height of these tables you offer a unique perspective on the room and everything in it. It offers the illusion of a larger area where there isn’t, boosting the overall appearance of space in your room. One great example of this is with gathering tables. These are tables designed for sitting for a talk with friends. With an elegant design you can feel more relaxed and less cramped than you might with a typical table in the same space. If you have higher ceilings you can also give the room a more intimate look by using a darker counter height table.

You can also find unique coffee tables and end tables in the counter height style. Perfect for home and office settings these tables lend a certain air of sophistication and elegance to most any environment. Use them for flower arrangements, a lounge table or reception areas and you won’t go wrong. The look lifts the eye to a higher height and offers you a less stooped, cramped feeling to the areas in which you use them. Offering varying heights to your furniture means opening the space that’s so often overcrowded by traditional furniture. Opening this space |

visually offers the eye more to look at and makes smaller areas seem much larger than they would otherwise be. Counter height tables such as the TS2 Side Table are an asset in smaller apartments and homes where space is so very limited.

Timeless Coffee Tables
![]() |
What is it with coffee tables? Other pieces of furniture have their seasons of rage; they are a la mode sometime and out of style the next day. But the coffee table is a classic that stays on. Oh yes, it gets wonderfully creative makeovers from time to time by talented designers but the essence remains the same. The coffee table is meant to add a touch of indulgence and luxury like the Pike Glass Coffee Table by Tonin Casa from Spacify.

In my home, a coffee table is something around which my family and friends can lounge, relax, chat, discuss and have a great time. It can be turned into a display area but more than anything it is a comfort zone in most homes. Have a space that’s small? There are solutions like the Patio Small Glass Table which has that irresistible blend of solid wooden frame and glass I either black or white. Elegant yet approachable and a very beautiful design. Just what a coffee table is meant to be. |

Modern Design in Stainless Steel:
![]() |
One of the newest details being used for innovative design is stainless steel, starting with the prime example of the Otto Modern Coffee Table by Cattelan Italia. This is a fantastic piece that has your choice of a glass topper in either mirrored, smoke grey, or extra white – you decide! Either way, you can count on this sleek piece being an eye catcher in your living room decor. For stainless steel use in the office setting, a fantastic choice is the Vega Executive Office Desk by Cattelan |

Italia, which will give you an almost futuristic look to your everyday office with the functionality and style that you need to get your job done..

And whether you are looking for a home or office setting, then the stainless steel structures of the Dadox Coffee Table by Cattelan Italia are exactly what you need! They are polished coffee tables and side tables that come in cubic or parallelepiped designs. These tables truly offer something different to your home or office decor, not to mention the fact that they have the stainless steel construction to give a clean and modern look to the room!

Coffee Tables Like You Have Never Seen
![]() |
Coffee tables are actually not so average anymore, and my favorite coffee table alternative is the Zen Coffee Table with Drawer that sits directly on the floor to give that old world Asian feel to your living area. This is the perfect way to sit around with a group of friends and really enjoyed socializing because the flat and sleek design is so attractive.

Another great coffee table choice is so innovative, and that is the Berlin Swivel Coffee Table by Sitcom Furniture. It is constructed with the highest quality, and it has an ash veneer top. It comes in several sizes so that the tables can actually stack on top of each other because they move easily on wheels. Think about entertaining a gathering in your home and being able to wheel out several coffee tables to accommodate their food and drinks. It is a very smart design that looks totally chic and sophisticated when you stack all of the coffee tables together. Lastly, the Hida Coffee Table is a totally simple design that reminds me of Stonehenge. It has an oak veneer, and it will give you a bare simplicity to your total living area so that it stands out all by itself!

The Table Tale…
|
Tables are an integral part of any décor and central to conventional and traditional themes. Talking green makes sense here, for it also makes an aesthetic focal point for your family and friends. No, I am not going over-board on making an ‘eco-living’ point…. its really a matter of individual taste and choice. What I am trying to suggest is that going green often sounds like a drag; and it’s really not the case. I must say bamboo is one hell of an aesthetic-looking grass and it turns me on to see well-designed bamboo furniture any day…..
|
|||
|
Well, talking green is no longer such a bad thing and I guess we all have the choice to adopt lifestyles with green products that ensure we don’t run down dry on resources we already have. And I am about to suggest a few great designs I recently came across….

Constructed with Amber & Blonde Bamboo Ply, the Hollow Coffee Table has cubby access from the sides with a slim opening all the way through the center. The neat design uses light and dark bamboo for the flawless appeal. The surface is treated with Organic herbal oil and non-toxic water-based finish for a life-long smooth finish guess you can order custom sizes too….

This design in contrasting tones of dark and light Bamboo is great for use and display. I mean, just look at the design—it even has pockets for you to store. I think its practical and chic—just the thing for modern homes….the hidden storage space rocks, so does the non-toxic finish done on the Amber & Blonde Bamboo Ply. A great Hollow end table it seems….

Out of context, but bestowed with great functionality…must mention the Brave Bamboo Stagger is a huge asymmetrical shelving system. Well, I rate it as one of the most innovative and practical display cum storage solution. The unit makes the best use of space for a variety of display options. The toasted vertical grain bamboo is a natural charmer…. |

Eero Saarinen
|
Eero Saarinen was born in Helsinki in 1923. He was the son of the renowned Finnish architect and first President of the Cranbrook Academy of Art, Eliel Saarinen. He belonged to the genre of European designers who propagated modern classicism through their work. When he was thirteen years of age, they moved to the US in 1923. He grew up within the community of the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan, where his father taught. Saarinen undertook courses in sculpture and furniture design. He earned a scholarship at the Yale University and traveled to Europe (1934/35). On his return, he toured Europe and North Africa for a year and spent another year back in Finland, after which he returned to Cranbrook to work for his father and teach at the Cranbrook Academy of Art academy. He learnt sculpture at the Académie de la Grande Chaumiére in Paris (1929/30), and later graduated in architecture at the Yale University in New Haven Connecticut in 1934. Saarinen had a close relationship with fellow students Charles and Ray Eames, and became good friends with Florence (Schust) Knoll.
|
|
![]() |
In 1937, he drew a partnership with Charles Eames that turned into a successful series of furniture designs. During this period, his designs became immensely popular and he started producing furniture for Knoll International. His architectural career is marked by some great projects like the TWA terminal at the John F Kennedy Airport in New York, the General Motors Technical Center in Warren, Michigan.
|

After his father’s death in 1950, Saarinen founded his own office, “Eero Saarinen and Associates”. Starting with his collaborations with Eames on “Organic Design in Home Furnishings competition in 1940, for which they received first prize, his modern designs effortlessly moved back and forth between the International style and expressionism, utilizing a vocabulary of curves and cantilevered forms. Saarinen worked for Knoll Furniture Company, founded by family friends Florence (Schust) Knoll and her husband Hans Knoll. During his long modern furniture design career with Knoll, he created some valuable pieces of furniture that include the “Grasshopper” lounge chair and ottoman (1946)(not so popular), the “Womb” chair and ottoman (1948)(tulip collection), the “Womb” settee (1950), side and arm chairs (1948-1950), and his most famous “Tulip” or “Pedestal” group (1956), which featured side and arm chairs, dining, coffee and side tables, as well as a stool.

From the Pedestal collection in dining, the round table, the side table and the oval dining table were a hit. The marble–topped dining tables are roomy and cozy for intimate dining. Eero Saarinen’s ability to blend color, form and materials was remarkable. The pedestal table from his pedestal collection is a reflection of this ability in this timeless classic. Eero Saarinen’s pedestal tables solve a particular design problem: “The underside of typical chairs and tables makes a confusing, unrestful world. I wanted to clear up the slum of legs.” I saw some of these designs on spacify. Check up…’ Hmmm…..

Family + time= FUN
|
Sitting room is no longer just a live and ‘plays’ space. The concept has turned into practical humdrum. And living room furniture, it has come to mean more than balancing the color on your walls. I have seen great shift of taste and lifestyle that throws the idea around. Family room furniture can add a style dear to you. Interestingly simple items like side tables and end tables can do wonders in adding an element of pleasant contrast. So it’s my turn with tables, and beauty.

The Raggio I like for its exceptional shape. You notice it a few feet away or tucked against a wall (side tables are just for it) and that’s the stuff I mean when I say innovation. The metal base, central tube and the fabulous top, while the toughened glass top looks like icing…fine aesthetics…
|

The Otis side table is about fabulous curves. I like the waves—the five chromed metal legs in contrast to the steady oval top (made of toughened glass). you could just pull it up for coffee….or a chat, or just like that….:) then therez Rick Lee’s cascade that looks like a multi-functional thing. Let me know if you took it as a trendy stool too, except that you cant be missing out the shelf. An Über design in wood with a tempered glass shelf, it is sturdy, it is chic…check it out.

Democracy, Obama and HOPES!
|
Its America’s and worlds new hope—Obama—and we are living a historic moment. I am sure there are quite some challenges for the young President when he steps up in Jan; and there are high hopes in air. America spoke its mind and gave its mandate……and we all have our fingers crossed for a better future…

It was the round of luck and time and some really busy week days that took most of my time. But here I am with new designs. I had your comments on mind on the Tagua table, and the more on likes of coffee tables and decided to take a good look before this post….this time its all glass and great class…

I guess living room furniture would not carry its charms without a quiet corner for coffee and friends, a corner away yet connected to the living area. And I like the Globe glass for its funky shape and the steel sphere that sparkles against clear glass. It had to be Giorgio Cattelan with his unique sense of balance. We like it. For a more regular but not so regular stuff, I must mention the Kaidr. The mirrored base is a genius, and the rectangular top has more of the air of a regular coffee table. If you don’t have the space, I suggest the square version. It is modern furniture, all right.

||

The Scacco is another glass beauty I came across. The marble stand makes a unique chiseled base in white carrara or black (marquina to be exact). Check the swatch details for the effects. I like the way it shows through the clear glass top. Again two shapes, and I like the square for the symmetry of balance with the base, though rectangle is not bad at all. It’s really hopeful, all of this….

Adjustable tables for everyone!!
|
Small is back in style. I guess ‘small’ really rocks, always appealing in right proportions. I have seen very b’ful things that best look small. It is the right size for growing demands on space, and quite high on utility. Saw these adjustable coffee tables that made me smile my heart out …

Where space is a restriction, dining tables need not get smaller by the feet, you can get these smarter versions like the Time dining cum coffee. The best feature so far is the way you can adjust its height to suit the purpose. Smartly UV-bonded to a steel support for raising or lowering height, I like the choice of tempered glass. The base support uses polished chrome plated steel tubes and aluminium casters….. I keep looking at it as great furniture ideas…

Another design in convertible coffee tables, the Virgola looks like the finest bet for both indoors and outdoors. The versatile design is multi-functional and can be extended to transform into a fledged dining table. The chrome metal structure is robust and the top uses toughened glass (in white /black, I guess)….love the design…ever bit of it…. minimal and completely indispensible piece of furniture for modern apartments and small homes…try it…
