Baltic Rocker

There are so many choices in kids seating available today, but the best place to start is with old-fashioned rocking chairs. This is going to give them something that they will truly appreciate for years to come! But the great news is that old-fashioned rocking chairs are not so old-fashioned anymore due to the innovative and contemporary designs available for your own home kids seating. The best place to start would be the classic Baltic Rocker, which is in the traditional rocking horse design. This may be something that you remember from your own

childhood, which is why it is perfect to pass it on to your children! The great part is that this beautiful rocking horse is both high quality and affordable, so it will last for a long period of time. It’s made of birch plywood, and it comes with a painted or unpainted face.

This goes well in any child’s room, and all you need to find are some fun designs in a kids pillow to go with it. I plan to post a brief guide on kids stuff. ranging from kids seating, bunk beds, play room ideas to kids bedroom furniture. The focus will be how to grow little imaginative kids with stuff that complement their ages of growth. There is a constant demand on intelligent games and ergonomic beds, built in desks and storage solutions in the playroom and study..

ABC Fun Rug by Bowron

Throws, kid rugs and pillows, as also study desks and workstations are pieces of furniture that set off a standard for young people at important stages of childhood, and they need to be up-to-the mark in terms of practical demands around a kid’s life. Kids rooms can be full of energy and character involving minimum upkeep and a great appeal. Playrooms can be customized for a special feel, and storage solutions met and added to in novel ways. Jolly Good ‘Play and Store’ Cubes…

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Ever since J learnt to walk, our house practically appears like an open playground. Toys, teddy bears, color, crayons and paper lying all over the place. No matter how much you want, some things get difficult with growing tots, if not just impossible! House keeping is one of them, and juggling with a career, baby and everyday life demands organization. We can’t have a spark-less house we used to, but we have made a few rules to keep things in order. For instance, we keep playthings in the play room as a rule, and for the ever mounting heap of toys and stuff, well….we got one of those color cubes….it helps with the UNclutter, really!.

My first impressions… it is just one of those colorful things to have around, but as I later discovered, J learnt to stuff her things in the neat draws and her playroom looked quite functional and creative…and we loved it too….

Angela Kube Set by Pkolino

Take a look at the Angela Kube Set…. the part we love is that it can be arranged in different combinations, just the way you desire. They are really simple and need no assembly, just stack them in a corner and start using. The Baltic birch construction is light and ideal for kid’s room….we have an Orange one, I guess you can opt for blue and natural too….

 	 Celino Kube Drawer by Pkolino

If you like to have draws (works well for growing kids), you may like the Celino Kube drawer that opens up effortlessly and has enough space to stack clothes, toys, books, paper and a dollhouse too! I love the colors ….

Dino Kube by Pkolino

Add another version to your choice—the open Dino Cube may also be a great way to store and stack (also sit). The modular cubes can be configured differently and used for a variety of functions. Use them as shelves, bins, chalkboards…..your little one will invent more uses, mine surely has….

ICFF Highlights – Ducduc

Friday, September 25th, 2009

I have been researching to keep the clutter free from my kid’s room. Here are couple of options that will work for moms who are picky about cleanliness…..

Tetra 6 Drawers Storage Cabinet

Tetra 6 Drawers Storage Cabinet: The Tetra 6 Drawer Storage cabinet is every mother’s dream come true. Look at it! It is a low cabinet, small dresser or changing table with accessory add-ons. How many furniture pieces give you that sort of convenience? The unit is unusually designed and has different configurations to suit your space. The unique look comes from one brightly-painted drawer and two dark sable painted drawers. The remaining three drawers are finished in the natural Birch Euro-ply. You also get tray top and drawer color options in Ozone Blue, Persimmon Orange, Lotus Green and White. A great way to introduce organized multi-faceted storage to your child’s room.

Tetra 10 Drawers Cabinet

Like the earlier, the Tetra 10 Drawers Cabinet too is a storage wonder! It doesn’t have to be limited to your child’s room. You can shift it to your own bedroom, use it as a linen cabinet or simply stock your home office supplies. This 10 drawer unit comes in a 5-row high, 2-drawer wide configuration or in a 2-row high, 5-drawer wide configuration. Take it pick, depending on the space you have in your house. This Birch Euro-ply unit features one brightly-painted drawer in a color of your choice and three dark sable painted drawers. The remaining six drawers are finished in the natural Birch Euro-ply to give it an eclectic and different look.

Block by Block… Brock Brandenberg

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Well, I think you guys like bamboo furniture too (isn’t it awesome). Talking of green furniture, what do you call a designer who takes creativity to the next level to build up fantastic furniture systems that require little or no assembly? Brock Brandenberg, of course! The designer has been Legare’s original creator in line, the founder of the patented designs. His contemporary twist to sustainable furniture is quite fun to get on toes, really! I like his innovative consumer products, be it furniture, consumer electronics or computer software! The interesting part is that with his growing admirers in North America, Germany, England, Japan and Korea; his designs remain original and green.

Take a look at a few ones from my personal fav. list…

Raul Kids Multi-Pack Workstation

This one is unadulterated fun for kids. Get them to assemble, for it’s quite easy. The Raul Kids Multi-Pack Workstation requires no bolts or screws to stand up. Just about 3 minutes to assemble… Well, the unit has a full-size desk, PDA Shelf, CPU Shelf, versatile shelving, and a mobile file cart for document storage. With a built-in cable management system, I like all the colors it comes in…. they are fun (not just function) to have in a kid’s room.

Santo Media Tower

Speaking of green furniture, this Plywood construction, the Santo Media Tower has greater potential to outlast solid wood furniture. The FSC certified sustainable environment friendly unit claims to be quite easy to assemble and disassemble (repeatedly without damage. I know that it has passed an incredible test by Entela to load an incredible 2000 pounds (one ton) of shot bags and weights on it’s corner Desk with no structural damage! The 5-shelved beauty and comes in two finishes….

Pino Modern Kids Bookcase

For kids again (happy, moms?), the Pino Modern Kids Bookcase looks great in enamel finish. In just 3 minutes, you can build an entire system with no tools, no screws or bolts and best of all, no hard labor. I have one at home and it makes us happy. Apart from the anthropomorphic (defined as art work decorated with human features) quality, I like the adjustable shelves and fabulous color choices….

Sustainable Design For Kids

Friday, September 25th, 2009

We try to teach our children about the horrors of global warming, teach them to save energy by switching off the lights when they leave a room and educate them to recycle. Why then fill their room with furniture that could be a source of toxic emissions when discarded?.

Pino Modern Kids Bookcase

As a mother, I’m more at peace knowing that the furniture that my child is going to touch and in case of a smaller child, even bite into, is made of non-toxic materials. It’s not just me. In recent times, the world has woken up to the beauty and practicality of eco-friendly furniture..

Furniture designers are now working with suppliers who provide wood that is reclaimed and recycled. And these days, eco-friendly furniture can incorporate some wonderful designs like these. Whether it’s a raspberry and cream colored bookcase for a special girls’ room or a sturdy adjustable bookcase that will stand the test of years of use, eco-kids furniture has all the fun elements. It’s a good way to enlighten your children in the eco-friendly culture and make a start..

Long Life Furniture For Kids

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Back to designer kids bedroom furniture; I love to highlight these few designs I saw. In a hurry though, and haven’t been able to catch up on too many things last week. Long travels makes me dizzy at a times. Tried a baby disprin for the headache…. and it def. wont stop me from posting my fave designs for sure…. smiles…

Parker Designer Nightstand.

Take a hard look at the Parker Designer Nightstand. You would know why. It’s the design. You could easily pass it up for storage, and switch on to side table, or for seating. It’s the multifunctional design that held me. Feel it is a great unit in any kids bedroom and some call it must-have toddler bedroom furniture, and there is a palette full of color choices. Storage is def. the primary use, and rest you can invent or, even better, leave it to your little ones and their imagination.

Dylan Modular System

And whoever says baby furniture can’t be modular. Take a look at the versatile Dylan Modular System. Best model so far in terms of function in kids room, it has a bonding bench (!!!), crib, plinth and a dresser. The unit can be organized in different ways to fit yours and kiddoz lifestyle, right from cradle to college. Well…hmmmm…. makes sense to invest! You get to convert the crib to a toddler bed, and then to a daybed. The bonding bench provides a comfortable space for parents to sit closely to relax or play in the early years. You don’t wan to drag a big chair into your child’s room every day! In later years, when your child needs additional room, the bench can be converted to an ottoman (cool). Cushions can be removed and placed in daybed leaving you with a cocktail table. dramatic but true….

Sam Modern Crib

On regular models, you must check up the Sam Modern Crib. The ducduc product is a beauty, and allows four mattress height settings. Available in four lively colors (makes it three, one is white), the fixed side rails bestow it with utility. At an extra price, the toddler bed conversion kit it makes a lot of sense to have. The shelf space underneath for storage looks smart and all.

Read Designs On Bunk Beds

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Been meaning to post some more on child bedroom furniture (n d topic demands I keep hearing from you all…keep writing in). Last week was busy—refashioned the terrace and this time we did a new style of terrace-scaping (hahha), We have variety of bamboos, fichus and palms that stand tall and green for the energy and shelter, then we have the seasonal flowers in red and yellow and shocking pink…. so dats about a bit of stuff that kept me occupied in free time, but mostly it’s the traveling that eats away the time (you know how it is)…so here goes the long due post….

Ok, so was it kids bunk beds that you guys are looking for. I am not against the idea except that I have been looking for some really innovative designs. And I found some great ones by…………any guesses!!!! Nursery works and Ducduc….

Duet Modern Bunk Bed

The Duet Modern Bunk Bed by Nursery works is a great model for children’s room. Pluses—cubbies, draws underneath the bed and a contemporary ladder and bed design. Cons—none but expensive, but not if you look at the add-ons, I would say its worth every buck. I like the style, and the design is quite contemporary—ladder et al. great work…

I like two of Ducduc latest—the Fillmore Designer Bunk Bed & the Fillmore Loft. Starting with the bunk bed, the safety factor weighs up(even with the Duet) with the clean lines and blunt edges. I think the choice of trundle bed OR the drawers to be practical. The cut-out rungs ladder fees safe for slightly smaller kids. The armoire and shelves are cool too. Claims to be non-toxic (again add to the safety factor), claims to use 100% sustainably harvested grain-matched hardwoods.

The Fillmore Designer Loft Bed I like for its upbeat make and economy of space. The choice is yours—use it as trundle bed or a modular bunk system. This one too has an armoire with shelves for more storage (read considerate designing…). The guardrails are thoughtful, and the design accommodates 8-inch high twin x-long mattress. Now the best part abt the design—you can either attach the bottom bed underneath (like a regular bunk) or use it perpendicular for a change. like dem all…

Child desks for Playrooms

Child Desks For Playrooms

The playroom is where a child’s imagination grows. And the Child Desks where it prospers. Well, I believe in having utility-based kid playroom furniture at home, those things that can be used for some years at a stretch, and the role of inventive design plays a key role in deciding on the furniture we purchase. J loves the touch of old furniture (guess he inherited it from me, and how we love to think of it..:)) well, well from kids playroom furniture to some sturdy designs for childrens desk I am going to focus on innovation.

Like the Loom desk with its understated presence. It is a genius disguised in solid wood. Now the best on consideration and I’m loving it again is the adjustable height(simple and thoughtful), it can be set on to two different heights. The power strip at the back, extra pull-out desk plane, the pedestal, the side draws and pencil draws is all considerate. Opt for low or high desk (age should determine) and I like the Natural Catalpa finish.

On desks, play tables seem to disappear from play scenes. Till I saw the Parker, I think having a play table (though sounds trivial) is a great idea to save your house from clutter and make playtimes more focused. The uses can be varied, I often find crayons and paper on the table, but most of the times its toys scattered. So, J and I, we do the clearing after every play session (he is 4 now). The Parker has a rolling drawer that can be turned into a storage bin later on. And the table top they claim is big enough to accommodate most train sets(smiles). Check the colors….

Imagine something mobile that you could easily move to the gardens and patios for evening play time. I like the Fundy as an overall play unit. Includes two different height leg sets(cool?) and the chalk board/dry erase top is great stuff, and the storage draws can be used to stock more things. There are like three finishes…I like the Birch….what say.
