Eco Kitchen!!
|
Last night after our friends retired for the night (after a great dinner prepared by L), I just kept thinking about the eco-factor we have been talking about lately. Could be the green crispy veggies; but my mind did not rest without pondering upon possibilities of sticking to the ‘green-theme’ (a topic that was as ‘hot’ as some of the dishes on the table). Joe mentioned going green in the kitchen; and it had be thinking…

Nice point for debate, I thought. What about practicality! Where will I find all the green-furniture for my little kitchenette? Not sure if anybody really thought about going green in the kitchen furniture, I explored with the closest tool available on hands. On searching, I found some of these great models I could easily replace some of my stuff with…. Well, take a look…

Made with vertical-grain bamboo, the Stagger Server looks like the thing for my kitchen. I like the maverick design—the asymmetrical shelving makes it a modular cabinet. I think it might also serve just fine as a buffet in the dining room. The surface is smoothened with organic Herbal oil and done in durable and non-toxic water based finish.

This utility table is one of its kinds—in design & functionality. I always like to hang around these tables for a number of activities each day, and life seems easier having them around. The Hollow Utility Table is an open-ended desk that I like them around whilst catching something to munch, looking over my dishes, and putting my thoughts on paper as and when I fancy. It could be used in any space, I assume. Why, I like the great contrast of light and dark bamboo and it has great energy….I really feel it when around….

Who is dining tonight!

There is a range of dining room furniture for every need, both slight and big. Often, dining room sets come to be looked down as regular stuff in terms of size and proportion, often considered for small/mid/big sized dining areas. Dining room tables have come to mean more than the regular rectangles and squares though. We now have space-hugging shapes like oval, semi and full circles and others that are easy on room yet high on function.

Can’t say what is the right table size, but you should have enough space between diners, and the host should be able to serve comfortably. For everyday meals, nothing too tight, and on these lines, I must mention a moderate design I eyed the other day—the Chianti Round. Inspired by classics in mid 20th century, I like the way the feet gently taper down at the end. Ideal for small to mid sized dining needs (well, I guess best for small families), the structure uses kiln – dried maple veneers and select hardwood solids…hmmm…

I also saw this dining room buffet which will not be so out of league to mention. I really fell for its down-to-earth looks and high utility features. Game for bigger dinning rooms, I am sure you will love the tiered moldings as much as I did. And the number of drawers and shelves suggests storage unlimited. Truly superb craftsmanship and great presence!!!! This one has nothing to do with dining tables, but I simply like the design…..saw it last week. I really liked the heavy rattan-clad seat and back, and the curved back (for support). Check up the Barbados side chair that could be used as a regular dining chair…
