Modern day living norms

Friday, September 25th, 2009

I often see those out of the world magazine décor themes that look so picture puuuuuuuuuurfect that you start wondering what would happen if you put a kid in this very room. You know a room full of delicate glass and fluffy carpets and perfect table tops with runners….. with a house full of little energetic people those kind of things don’t always fit into the imagination bracket …?.

Splitback Contemporary Sofa Bed by Innovation

Before J, we had the uber spirit to upkeep a spotless house with so-called modern furniture and art, an open terrace garden with a large leafy flowery variety of plants. And, we would return back from office to the spotless house everyday. Things have changed after the babies, and it has its joys and blessings, but a spotless home is not one of them. childhood has its phases of learning, and it has something for each one of us to rediscover, on practical terms, we added daybeds to our dictionary of furniture, and they are so convenient for afternoon naps that now we wonder why we didn’t think of them before…?.

Our day bed has a storage compartment underneath for bedding and it works perfectly well for i don’t need to hop into the bedroom every now and then….

NFL and Lounging…

Friday, September 25th, 2009

The 88th season of professional American football leagues kicked-off on the 6th September, and it was fun. Well me, I was all with the Colts (smiles…), can well imagine the excitement that waits on the 30th December. The playoffs start on January 5, 2008, ending with the league championship game, Super Bowl XLII on February 3, 2008…can’t be there, but I am excited…..

For football buffs like me who can’t be at hand, a great LCD and relaxing couch are a must, and the thrill is there…we love enjoying a match with friends! This football season, let’s talk of comfort. Yes, I mean all the more important with the ardeline-rush….keeps me wanting to relax back after a shot….

We recently changed our old sofa (yea, it was getting cranky) and though it has nothing to do with the NFL season, we and our friends are really happy with the settee….and football is goin’ to be fun at home….we had two choices and I must confess all were equally stunning….

Bjork Home Theater Seating by Lafer

The Bjork two Seater in leather (gorgeous, gorgeous leather) is designed for long hours at a stretch. The sofa can be arranged in a straight line or in a curve and the remarkable feature offering choice of multiple reclining positions. Can be opted as 2/3/4 seater, just perfect for amphitheatre and home theatre. Suit your mood with the 3 positions: flush with the seats, raised to an armrest position, or lifted, when it unveils a remote control pocket and a convenient tray with cup holders. Quite chic…right! Check out the colors….

 	 Janis Recliner Chair by Lafer

For single seater, I would say the Janis Recliner Chair was rather impressive. Again an ergonomic design(not understated, it realyz cool), the chair has an release knob for backrest adjustment and another footrest activation knob separately. There is a footrest activation handle and armrests follow the backrest movement, down to the sleeping position. Wow….well, wow….

Kym Reclining Chair by Lafer

And the Kym Reclining Chair draws for its super-modern appeal. I think they have incorporated a patented Plus system in the design. I think it has great substance, and the looks are super-modern…..

We opted for the Bjork for we wanted a 2-seater, but must say we were tempted…..

Charles Rennie Mackintosh

Willow Chair

Charles R Mackintosh was born on June 7, 1868, in Glasgow. The celebrated architect was one amongst eleven siblings living in the Towhead area of Glasgow, close to Glasgow Cathedral. He studied at the Glasgow School of Art. It is important to understand his work and his dislike of Victorian style of architecture. His idea of architecture was simplicity of geometric shapes and simple forms. Amongst his designs, the famed Glasgow School of Art (1897-99), follows his principles openly, with its plain rectangular framework, and long and simple curves and understated presence. Mackintosh was an outstanding interior European designers, and (from 1897 to 1912) his design scheme for the Cranston chain of tearooms in Glasgow are quite popular.

He met his future wife Margaret Macdonald at the Glasgow School of Art, and the husband and wife team collaborated on different projects. I have often wondered about his mastery in handling light and space, evident in his furniture design that became icons by itself. His earlier furniture designs were unique in the sense that they exhibited strong bonding with the arts and crafts movement—the art deco movement. Mackintosh’s versatility and his choice of color, shape and form were unique. Many of his remarkable designs are painted white with skillfully synchronized colored stencils of flower patterns.

His modern designs were titled Art Nouveau; they were devoid of ornamentation and excessive decorations. This probably was one of the factors that appealed to designer members of the Vienna Secession. Mackintosh exhibited his work in 1900 at the Secessionist Exhibition in Vienna. His modern furniture was much admired and thus began his international following. Some his unique designs include the Willow chair, the Mackintosh small table and the brilliant folding table.

His work played a significant role in shaping the 20th-century trend toward simplification and functionalism. Mackintosh died in London in 1928. It took decades for his work to earn a permanent place in the history of design. In the late 1970s the Mackintosh House, his studio-home in Glasgow, were reconstructed and set off as a museum. Mackintosh is internationally celebrated as one of the foremost architects and designers of the early 20th century.

Daybeds for good…

Day Bed

Leather sofa beds look like the hottest thing in town. In vogue are some modern sofa beds that allow your imagination to tingle a bit. The Royal day bed, for example oooooohs lots of attitude…the Abaca weave (rattan) and details like hardwood corner blocked frames and elasticized fabric spring decks bespeak of best support. The cute drawers on the front can used to store linen. Removable cushion covers and the choice in color look appealing…hmmm…..

The round Zero looks plush and is engineered with fine details. I quite like the chrome frame legs and smooth gliding surface for convenient elevation and stability. The small pocket spring mattress offers optimum comfort. The high density mattress ensures perfect bounce. I love it with the arm cushions (not sure about the oval ones). Check it up…

Sofa Bed

The Puzzle sofa is clearly a puzzle to the eye. But it has a contemporary feel about it. And the ergonomics are great. And you could go for the Panton orange for a bit more variation in color. It can be set at three levels of comfort and I can vouch for the super soft Freon mattress…?
